Focus On Those Things You Can Control Not On Those You Can’t..

My mate Mike asks completely the wrong questions.

A while ago he wanted to go to the Apple phone store on a bank holiday to treat himself to a new phone. He called the store in the afternoon to see what time they closed and discovered they would be closing early. Far too late for him to make the trip and have time to pick out a new phone.

Mike then spent the next several minutes moaning and groaning, asking me useless questions such as, “Why do they have to close early? Why do they bother to open at all? If they’re going to close early, they might as well have stayed home. Why don’t they just stay open for their normal workday?” And on and on.

What he should have asked himself is how he could fit a visit to the store into his schedule a day later, and how he could avoid having this happen to him in the future.

Then that got me thinking: Because how often do we focus on the things we can’t control, rather than those we can?

It’s like the weather: Everyone talks about it, but no one does anything about it because obviously we can’t. We can’t control the weather, but we can control where we live. Hate the snow of the north? Move south. Don’t like the summer heat? Move to the coast. It’s not rocket science is it?

It’s the same thing in your online business – if you simply focus on those things you can control and stop wasting time on the things you can’t control, you’ll be happier and more productive.

For instance, you can’t control time, but you can control what you do with your time.

You can’t control the customer service given to your customers by affiliate product owners, but you can control which products you promote (and thereby increase the odds of your customers getting great service.) Personally I refuse to promote the products of anyone whom I know to give poor customer service.

You can’t control the economy, but you can control how you earn and invest your money.

You can’t control what your competitors do, but you can control your own business and thus your own destiny.

You can’t always control what happens in life, but you can control how you react to what happens in your own life because getting what you want out of life is all about controlling what you can and using it to your own advantage.

You control your own life (or you should be doing)., so control whether you’re doing the things you’re doing out of obligation or out of desire. You are the main person who controls your destiny.

So forget the things you can’t control and focus on the things you can. You’ll be a lot more content…
