website

One of the things I hate most is hearing folks make all sorts of excuses for not putting their websites online and the most common one I hear is it’s not ready for people to see yet!!!

It’s one of the biggest mistakes folks make, they don’t want their website up and running on the net until they think it’s perfect. The problem is though is your website is never going to be as perfect as you want it to be, and if you procrastinate wanting to constantly titivate it and make it look better then you’ll be doing yourself a real disservice because it’s probably never going to look quite as good as you would like it to be.

One of the things I’ve always done is put my website up online no matter what it looks like because once you’ve got some content up (no matter how scant), you’ve got the beginnings of something those web bots can crawl and start indexing.

I’ve met so many people over the years who insist they don’t want to put their website up until they are happy with it and it’s a big mistake especially if you’re just starting out online and it’s your first site.

Who cares what it looks like, you can always make it look better within a matter of minutes, the point is you’ve got it up and running and besides starting to get your site indexed you’ll gain a huge feeling of accomplishment because you took action.

So get it up, there, don’t worry how crappy it looks like to start with because that’s soon rectified and to paraphrase a particular quote, ‘Build it and they will come’ because if you haven’t built it you’ve nothing for anyone to visit…

      Hi Kim,

Great post and rant here about those who constantly seek perfection or the “right timing” to get things done. Like you mentioned, it’s better to have something up and running and then think about improving it as one starts progressing to becoming more professional. Perhaps perfection should have been called the eight cardinal/deadly sin in life.

Well hello Kim, great post and one we all need to take on board. Many of us have the goal of helping others and the best way to do this is by showing them where we started. As you point out for many of us this starting point was with a low quality site, first post or even video.

Only by doing it can you get better.
