xspI got an email the other week (As I’m sure thousands of others did) from one of the nicest blokes I know, online. Paul Smithson, the owner of XSitepro to tell us he’s decided to stop selling and actively updating one of what I used to consider to be the best pieces of software out on the net. You can see his blogpost here where he explains the reasons why he’s doing so.

Xsitepro was launched back in 2004 and for semi internet literate people like me at the time it was a Godsend.

I didn’t have a clue about SEO or anything else pertaining to getting your websites noticed by Google or any of the other search engines back then, heck I could barely build a website, (Front page was very much my friend at the time)!

XSP as it fondly became known, did all that boring stuff for you, it checked your content to make sure you weren’t  keyword stuffing, checked your SEO and did a host of other stuff that helped to make your website attractive to the search engines.

I wasn’t the only one who liked it. Paul went on to sell millions of dollars of the software to people just like me who only wanted to get their websites up and running without all the palaver and time needed on huge learning curves.

In fact I liked it so much I used to actively promote it, I think (if memory serves me right), I manged to sell $20k worth as an affiliate within a few months. I still have the coffee mug I was sent as an extra thank you. (I was really tickled getting that coffee mug)!!!

But I guess time marches on and all good things come to an end.  The internet is so much easier to navigate now with word press and other platforms which make it a whole lot easier to build a profitable online business without having to know a whole heap of html to help you get started. Look at word press for instance, I would imagine there is a plugin for every conceivable need out there.

I know Paul was hoping to sell XSP to someone who would continue to develop it and take it to new heights but after looking at the possibilities of doing so, he’s decided to throw in the towel and take a well earned rest.

Your copy of XSP will still work of course but unfortunately there will be no further support for it or any updates.
