If you’ve been online for as long as I have, you’ll remember when the first dreaded Google Slaps started way back in the dark history of the Internet. (That would be a few years ago)

It caused absolute consternation at the time, many marketers who were relying on spammy ads etc to keep their online businesses afloat, saw those businesses dry up overnight as their first page rankings plummeted. Indeed, if memory serves me right, I think some marketers tried to take Google to court because of their lost revenue. (I don’t think it got them anywhere, to be honest I never followed it up)..

Here’s an interesting article about Google slaps if you want to read about them further.

Personally, I’ve never been too bothered about Google slapping anyone. I’ve always tried to run my sites cleanly because I don’t see the point in trying to spam my way to the top when it can be done legitimately. I was never into keyword stuffing or any of the other tricks employed.

Plus to be fair, I’ve been offline on and off over the last few years so not really given it much thought.

Anyway it looks as though there is another one on the way in July 2018, so we have plenty of warning to get our sites ready and sorted.

Been reading the article below and it looks as though Google is going to be concentrating more on page speed loading on mobile devices. So it’s not good enough that your site is mobile friendly in appearance, it’s also got to load really well if you want to keep your rankings as high as possible.

The article also gives you access to some really great Google tools, I was a bit horrified to find both my main sites (this one and my cooking blog), do well on desktop, but not so well on mobile devices. I’ve already started making some changes.

The Google Speed Update: Page speed will become a ranking factor in mobile search

Another site I found useful is Pingdom. It gives you an idea of how well your site loads from different world areas. It’s free, so give it a try with yours.

Here’s another where you can check your page speed.

Happy reading…

Just checked mine. Pretty good, and on shared servers.

      That’s good Richard.
I do wonder whether it’s mostly WP sites that will be hit. They get terribly bloated. I’m trying something out at the moment to make them a tad sleeker

Had this (wordfence_syncAttackDat) pop up in my Pingdom report as I was researching why my website was lagging severely over the past week. Went into Live Traffic and saw Wordfence was blocking my host’s IP address all of a sudden. So if you see blocked for Manual block by administrator, you may want to check and make sure it’s not your host’s IP address. Thanks Kim
